9/24/18 If anyone wants to go on our field trip, please let me know. As of now, I need 7 more parents. There are lots of math fluency games your child can play under the links tab- multiplication.com, just change it to addition or subtraction. They can use these to count on their homework.
9/17/18 Picture day is next Monday, September 24th.
9/9/18 Please check your email for the most currently information. Email sent home September 7th. Be on the lookout for your child's Lexia account and log in information coming home this week.
9/4/18 Spelling words have been updated for this week. I have had a few questions on what to do for math homework. There are lots of options. I have several math sites on my links page, you can do flash cards, or you can just orally practice them on your car ride to school each day. I am still waiting to hear if we have a math program like Big Brainz this year. I will be in touch! Thanks!
8/29/18 Sneak peek of an email being sent home on 8/31.
Heads up this might be a lengthy email. Please read to the end, not all my emails will be a novel, I promise.
Coming home Tuesday will be our monthly homework calendar. If you need any clarification on it when it comes home please let me know. It is pretty simple. I ask that students read 5 days a week for 20 minutes, practice addition and subtraction facts for 5 minutes 3 days a week, and when we get our new Reading Program (Lexia) that they complete three sessions a week on it. Spelling homework is somewhat optional. If your child can get 100% on a pretest you give them at home on Monday then all they need to do is take their test on Friday with me and get a good score. If they don’t get 100% on Monday I have a list of spelling activities on the back of the calendar that they can choose from. They do not need to turn in spelling homework. I will know if they studied by the test they take on Friday.
We are collecting Box Tops this year. Please cut them off your packages and send them in with your child. There is a grade level competition with this this year and the teachers in Third grade can be quite competitive. :)
I offer students an Optional Extra Practice Packet periodically. The packet reinforces skills they are studying in math. It is sent home after the material has been taught and is meant for practice. This is OPTIONAL. If your child turns it in completed I will give them a treat/prize. There is no time limit to turn it in, just work at their own pace and turn it in when it is completed and checked by a parent. It can take 4 days it can take 2 weeks it doesn’t matter.
Book orders- If you are interested in ordering books for your home library Scholastic is a great place to order from. Not only do you get books for home, I get points I can redeem for books in the classroom. I will be sending in an order on Thursday, September 13th. You can order online at https://clubs.scholastic.com. Use the class code GQY2V to order.
Test Correction- students are assessed regularly in class to prove they understand their math concepts. Ms. Dong teaches the concepts in Chinese and I assess them in English. I try to send home the test and email a key to it so you can go over any misconceptions they had with it. I am sending you home one today. Last week students studied place value and numbers. You will notice students did very well on one side of the page and struggled with the other side. The goal of this test was to have students prove they understood what place value is and then apply it on the Who am I page. Students that scored well on the Number/Picture/Expanded Form/Word Form side proved to us that they understand basic place value. Students that did well on the What am I side proved to us that they can apply their understanding in a deeper level. Both are good skills. We want to push students to apply what they are learning and make those deeper connections. Reteach and Extension opportunities will be taught between all the Third-grade teachers next week to help solidify these concepts as well. Please use the key I have attached in this email to review any questions that they struggled with.
8/29/18 We have had a great two weeks. This group of students are fantastic. Please make sure your child is spending time practicing math facts, reading 20 minutes a day, and reviewing spelling words. Links can be found on the links section of this website.
8/27/18 Getting to know Mrs. Guerrero! I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself to the 60 parents and students I will be teaching this year. Let me start by telling you that I am excited to be teaching the English side of our Chinese Immersion class. I think we will have some great experiences in our class this year. This is my 13th year teaching (3rd in the Immersion Program), I have taught 2nd, 2nd/3rd, and 3rd grade. 3rd grade is my favorite and I could stay teaching it for 20 more years. I was born and raised in California, I went to college and earned my teaching degree from UCR. In May of 2018, I earned my Masters of Education from SUU. I moved to Utah ten years ago for my husband to finish his degree and decided to stay. I am one of your neighbors, I have lived in Eagle Mountain for the last five years and love the area. I have two kids, Abigail who is entering the 3rd grade Chinese Immersion class and Andrew who is in the 1st grade immersion program.
7/18/16 I hope everyone is enjoying their summer break! I am looking forward to starting a new school year. I have updated my links section with a new link. I thought this year I would create an Amazon wish list of things that our classroom could use and like. Some items are smaller and more realistic, while there are a few items that would just be fun to have as a reward for students to work towards. I am sure when you look at it you will be able to tell the difference. :) Here is a quick link to it: Mrs. Guerrero's Amazon Wishlist.
